

Research topics included symbiotic microbes, pollination and black mustard, fountain grass population dynamics, precipitation and vegetation change, and cactus wren habitat quality. The UCI Eco Preserve is a 60-acre site near campus that has been used for extensive research over the years. They wrote and acquired a grant to produce interpretive signs for the Eco Preserve and we debuted the signs with a guided scenic walk. We celebrated an achievement of the CEB interns. Other workshop presentations were arranged related to drought, Orange County research projects, ongoing monitoring projects, and education and outreach activities. He compared the frequency of larger wildfires, driven by Santa Ana winds, to smaller wildfires, driven by high temperatures. Jim Randerson, our featured speaker, presented his work on wildfires.
